Welcome to Belmont
Take a step away from the bustle of day-to-day life in this oasis town where exquisite nature is right in your backyard
The undeniable small-town ambiance of Belmont is only part of the city’s alluring charm, and from its hillside perch pressed into the Santa Cruz Mountains, Belmont’s residents find their own little paradise. The city’s unique personality is born from the combination of local, independent shops and diners with a stunning multitude of open spaces and spotless parks.
Incorporated in 1926, Belmont’s landscape of foothills and highlands makes a halcyon backdrop for its population of around 27,000 residents. Belmont has continued the tradition of providing a tranquil and residential-focused lifestyle for those in the Bay Area and the area serves as a wonderful respite from the more industry-central cities nearby.
Lush gardens and mature trees often surround the homes of Belmont, whose architectural styles can vary from mid-century bungalows completely remodeled to gorgeously appointed houses, sleek and modern 1970s single-family homes, and two-story houses with views of the water. Prices can be slightly higher than some Bay Area homes but are more than compensated for through the spacious designs and magnificent views.

Local Lifestyle
With so much nature at hand, it’s not uncommon for most residents to spend their free time exploring the great outdoors — whether that’s hitting the waters of the Bay or climbing the foothill trails and picnicking in the open spaces. A quiet, relaxed atmosphere radiates out, making it a great spot for families, too.
Dining, Entertainment, & Shopping
Much of Belmont is centered along El Camino Real, which is lined with tasty restaurants, service providers, and stores to meet your daily needs. However, when it comes to engaging in more serious retail shopping, residents know to visit the
Carlmont Village Shopping Center, which houses over 45 shops and restaurants — most of which are local specialty stores and dining locations.
Belmont harbors many noteworthy eating establishments, such as Waterdog Tavern. Specializing in New American cuisine and home to a spectacular beer garden, the
Waterdog Tavern features a dazzling wine and craft beer menu and always delights its diners with an amiable, energetic atmosphere.
Rustic wood accents, soft lighting, and a palette of rich, warm colors contribute to the romantic ambiance of
Vivace, an upscale Italian restaurant whose menu includes gourmet Neapolitan pizzas and a full bar serving bold cocktails along with carefully chosen West Coast wines.
Things to Do
As with much of the Bay Area, Belmont is a trove of resplendent natural spaces and ample park areas. At
Waterdog Lake and Open Space, narrow hiking trails sprawl out and around the small lake before heading into the surrounding hills for a more challenging trek. Waterdog Lake Park is also known as one of the best outdoor spaces for pets and is definitively a dog-friendly park.
Schools
As a Bay Area neighborhood, Belmont has access to many incredible schools. Top educational opportunities include:
- Notre Dame High School, 9-12, highly rated private, Catholic, all-girls high school among the top in the Bay Area
- Nesbit Elementary School, K-8, highly rated public elementary school
